SARASOTA, FL / ACCESSWIRE / September 30, 2021 / Dominika Zabczyk is a Sarasota artist with a passion for the environment. Her company, Dominiqart, focuses on nature and conservation. Dominiqart is now premiering a limited collection titled Tribute to Nature. She states, “These surfboards are really powerful and carry an important message: There is One World and we are all connected.”

Dominiqart Tribute to Nature Theme

The surfboards were inspired by endangered animals, which are depicted in the artwork.

Black Marble is a breathtaking contrast of black-and-white and represents the earth and the beauty beneath its surface.

The Butterfly depicts a beautiful butterfly on a black background. Many butterfly species are currently endangered. The most well-known butterfly is the Monarch. The Monarch population has declined steeply in recent years. However, it’s not currently on the endangered species list. According to officials, other species are at a higher risk of extinction.

The Whale Shark features a whale shark. It’s very detailed, bringing the animal to life on the board. Whale sharks are the largest fish currently living. They are endangered, and highly prized for their fins, meat, and oil. However, the biggest danger to them is habitat loss and over-fishing.

The Elephant depicts one side of an elephant’s head. The eyes are incredibly realistic. When you look into her eye you’ll also see your reflection, to remind you that we’re equal and we have equal rights to live. Elephant populations are in severe decline. Poaching is the biggest danger for African elephants. For Asian elephants, habitat loss and conflict with humans living in close proximity are driving the decline.

The White Tiger piece is very special. There are no wild white tigers anymore. Records dating back at least four centuries indicate that wild white tigers once prowled freely in the forests of India. Some were shot, others were captured and sent to royal menageries and still, others remained in the jungles to perpetuate their lineage. The last known specimen in the wild was shot dead in 1958, leaving behind only the captive breeding population. Trophy hunting, habitat loss, and habitat fragmentation drove the rest to extinction. This can happen to all the animals and we’ll be only seeing them in zoos, small cages, far away from their natural habitats.

The Process

Dominiqart used reclaimed surfboards for the project. This entailed months of work. She left the surfaces imperfect on purpose. Each board has its own story. They were surfed with, and they were loved.

Dominika spent nearly 4 months on the paintings. She began by repairing dents and holes to create a smooth surface for the painting. Each board has 20 layers of epoxy and acrylic paint, creating a 3-D appearance that adds more realism to the pieces. Each board required 3 or 4 days to dry in between the layers.

Each board features a gold line. According to the Sarasota artist, “The gold line on the board is a symbol of perfect harmony & balance between Human and Nature, an invisible bond that keeps us alive.”
